Modern downhole logging has evolved far beyond traditional electrical measurements. Today, South Korean energy exploration teams utilize Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing (DFOS) technologies, such as Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS), Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS), and Distributed Vibration Sensing (DVS). These technologies turn the entire length of an optical fiber logging cable into a continuous sensor, delivering real-time, high-speed data from depths of over 8,000 meters. Huaneng's patented armored optical fiber cables are engineered to protect fragile glass fibers from extreme pressure, mechanical stress, and hydrogen darkening, which is common in deep oil, gas, and geothermal reservoirs.
Offshore exploration in the East Sea of Korea presents severe corrosive challenges due to high chloride concentrations and dissolved hydrogen sulfide (H2S) or carbon dioxide (CO2). Standard steel armor quickly degrades, endangering the integrity of the logging run. Huaneng addresses this by offering double-alloy coatings and advanced stainless-steel armor (316L, 825, and 28 alloys). As wells grow deeper and deviate horizontally, gravity and friction place immense mechanical loads on the logging wireline.
