Technical Demands in the North Sea & Dutch Geothermal Wells

Operating in the Netherlands presents unique geological and environmental challenges. The Dutch subsurface contains highly saline aquifers, which can accelerate the corrosion of standard metals. When downhole logging cables are deployed in these wells, they are exposed to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking (SCC). To prevent premature cable failure, Huaneng utilizes premium corrosion-resistant alloys for cable armoring, such as 316L stainless steel, Alloy 825, and super duplex steel wire wrappers.

Furthermore, the industry is shifting rapidly toward distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS). Technologies like Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) and Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) have become standard for monitoring injection and production profiles in Dutch wells.
