The World's Deepest Cable Borehole Imaging Logging Asia's No.1 Vertical Deep Well Made by Huaneng Cable
In 2024, Huaneng Cable developed 10,000-meter ultra-high-strength wireline logging cable for ultra-deep wells, which was successfully applied in logging operations of Well Tako-1 in the Tarim Oilfield of PetroChina, achieving a logging depth of 10,910 meters. This set a new record for the deepest vertical well in Asia and the deepest cable imaging logging depth globally.
On February 20, 2025, China’s Deep Earth Project achieved a major breakthrough: Well Tako-1, the country’s first ultra-deep scientific exploration well exceeding 10,000 meters, completed its drilling operation. For the first time worldwide, oil and gas resources were discovered at a depth of 10,000 meters underground, laying a solid foundation for the exploration and utilization of deep earth resources.
During the drive to reach the 10,000-meter depth mark, downhole tools had to withstand pressure impacts of over 145 megapascals—more than 80 times the pressure of a pressure cooker—along with ultra-high temperatures of nearly 220 degrees Celsius and complex geological structures, posing enormous challenges to the drilling project. China assembled interdisciplinary expert teams specializing in geology, geophysics, drilling and completion engineering to tackle these challenges collaboratively.

According to reports, the completion of this drilling project set five world records, including the deepest liner cementing globally and the fastest drilling to break the 10,000-meter mark on land worldwide. Not only were oil and gas resources discovered for the first time at this depth, but researchers also converted seismic waveforms from 10,000 meters underground into audible sounds. Additionally, based on geological samples (such as cores and cuttings) and data, they compiled Asia’s first 10,000-meter geological profile, laying the groundwork for the comprehensive exploration and utilization of deep earth resources.
At the initial stage of developing the 10,000-meter ultra-high-strength logging cable, Huaneng Cable’s technical team collaborated closely with CNPC Logging Co., Ltd. to address the challenges posed by extreme high-temperature and high-pressure environments. Through the innovative adoption of carbon fiber composite materials and proprietary manufacturing processes, the cable’s tensile strength and temperature resistance were significantly enhanced. Key performance indicators—including wire breaking strength, flexibility, insulation resistance, and cable elongation rate—all surpassed the national and industry standards by a considerable margin.
